DOLE eyes 90% cut in laborer deployment

To mitigate the shortage of construction workers in the country, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) may cut down the deployment of construction workers abroad by as much as 90%. The slowdown in deployment of construction workers, Sec. Bello said, may last for 3 years or until the end of President Rodrigo Duterte’s term. Sec. Bello noted that the construction industry has appealed to the DOLE to temporarily cease deploying construction workers because they are experiencing manpower shortage. However, Sec. Bello stressed that the POEA did not impose a ban on deployment but merely slowed down the processing for construction workers’ deployment.
